Rachelle Bond's sentencing postponed, day after ex convicted of killing 'Baby Doe'

BOSTON — The mother of a 2-year-old girl who became known as Baby Doe after her remains washed up on Deer Island in Boston Harbor was scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday, but the process was delayed until July.

Judge Janet Sanders said in a hearing Tuesday morning plans to find a rehab bed for Bond couldn't be solidified in time for her release.

Sanders admitted she plans to accept the DA's recommendation of time already served, but said the formal sentencing would have to wait as the rehab placement is a condition of her release.

The hearing happened just a day after her ex-boyfriend was convicted of second-degree murder in the girl's death.

Prosecutors asked that Bond be sentenced to the time she's already served in jail plus probation in exchange for her testimony against her former boyfriend, Michael McCarthy.

Bond and McCarthy were arrested in September 2015 for the killing earlier that year of her 2-year-old daughter Bella.

A computer-generated image of the girl was shared by millions on social media by authorities trying to determine her identity.

Bond pleaded guilty in February to being an accessory after the fact for helping McCarthy dispose of the body.
