Remains of toddler found in trash bag on Deer Island

BOSTON HARBOR (MyFoxBoston.com) -- State Police say that remains that were found on Deer Island Thursday are those of a toddler girl.

A woman walking along the beach on Deer Island reportedly discovered the child's remains in a trash bag near the shoreline, and called 911 at around 1 p.m.

Investigators would not comment on the state of the child's body.

On Thursday evening, state police were continuing to interview the woman about her discovery.

The medical examiner has taken custody of the child's body and an autopsy will be performed Friday, Suffolk District Attorney Mark Lee said.

Anyone with any information about a missing child is asked to call State Police at 617-727-8817.

Investigators were planning to continue to comb the beach into the night for any evidence, and were working with the US Coast Guard to analyze the drift pattern of the waterways around Deer Island. No further information was immediately released.
