Wynn Resorts taking steps to remove Steve Wynn from Mass. gaming license

Wynn Resorts is asking the Mass. Gaming Commission to remove the name of the company's founder from its gaming license.

Steve Wynn resigned as the chairman and CEO of the company earlier this year in the wake of sexual harassment complaints.

He also sold his shares in the Wynn Resorts.

Now, the company that still bears his name, is asking to have Steve Wynn removed as a so-called "qualifier" for the license.

Wynn Resorts sent Boston 25 News the following statement Tuesday afternoon:

"With the resignation of Steve Wynn as Chairman and CEO and the completed sale of his shares in Wynn Resorts, it is appropriate to have him removed as a qualifier for Wynn MA in Massachusetts.  Steve Wynn is fully separated from the Company and completely removed from all ownership, strategic and operational functions."

The $2.5 billion project remains under construction in Everett, with mounting questions about its future.

The Gaming Commission meets again on Thursday.

Gaming officials said the project is proceeding on an "at-risk" basis.
