Driver charged with OUI pleads not guilty in fatal Reading crash; $25k cash bail

READING, Mass. — Lynn DeWolfe, 50, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of drugs, among other charges, after causing a violent crash that left one man dead on Interstate 95 in Reading.

DeWolfe was spotted driving erratically on the northbound side of the highway when she slammed into another vehicle, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The driver of that car then lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a motorcycle, throwing the rider from the bike and killing him.

The road was shut down for a period of time for the investigation, and drivers stuck in the traffic said they were stunned to learn what took place.

“I was just driving in for work and I got stuck in it,” Sam Leger said.

State police said that after the initial crash, DeWolfe kept driving and crashed into two other vehicles before stopping several exits away.

The deceased victim in the crash has been identified as Christopher Weisz, 42, of Bedford. Weisz was taken by ambulance to Lahey Clinic in Burlington, where he was pronounced dead.

The Bedford Babe Ruth Baseball/Softball Inc., an organization Weisz volunteered with, has issued the following statement:

As is the entire Bedford community, we are very saddened by the tragic loss of Chris Weisz. Chris and his wife Alexis have been long-time volunteers with Bedford Babe Ruth Baseball/Softball, as well as many other organizations in and around Bedford. His children have played and worked in our leagues for many years.  Chris was a great and caring coach for the children of Bedford, and more importantly he was an excellent human being and a good friend to many of us.  Our hearts go out to Alexis and his three children.  Chris will be long remembered and greatly missed.

DeWolfe appeared in court on Friday morning and was held on a $25,000 cash bail after pleading not guilty. If her bail is posted, she will be unable to drive and held under house arrest.

She is due back in court for another hearing on September 22.

The full list of charges includes operating under the influence of drugs, leaving the scene of a crash that caused personal injury and death, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and marked lanes violations.

She has a long driving record, including two previous OUI charges. She was driving on a restricted license as a result of her last OUI, and her license was immediately suspended after Thursday’s crashes.
