Two suspected tire thieves attempting to flee the state caught by police

WEYMOUTH, Mass. — State Police have caught two suspected tire thieves who investigators say may be part of a large theft ring.

According to police, it all began overnight on Sunday when an eyewitness called 911.

Shortly after 4 a.m., Weymouth Police got a call from a resident at the Avana Apartments on Mediterranean Drive.

Court papers say the woman went outside and from her balcony she witnessed the two males stealing the tires off of her friend's motor vehicle.

However, her friend's Honda CRV wasn't the only vehicle affected. Rims and tires were stripped from an Accord nearby.

When police arrived at the scene, they say they saw the two men quickly fleeing and jumping over a wooden guard rail into the woods.

Police identified the men as Jordany Rosario and Ramon Silverio of Rhode Island.

Shortly after, at around 7:40 a.m., dispatchers received another 911 call from Nicholas Fitzgerald, a gas station attendant who said two men walked up to him and asked for directions to the nearest train station.

"I hung up the gas pump after I told them where to go, and I saw one of them and not the other and I was curious as to where the other one was," said Fitzgerald. "Next thing you know, I just see them pull off in my co-worker's car."

Massachusetts State Police found the two men in that stolen Civic heading to Rhode Island. The men were caught near the state line.

Court papers also show Silverio admitted he and his friend were at the Weymouth Apartments at the time of the theft, where he says "we were right there, we were watching you guys search for us the entire time from up there."

Silverio and Rosario were arraigned on multiple charges for stealing motor vehicle parts and larceny of a vehicle. They're being held at the Norfolk County jail and are scheduled to be appear in court again on February 28.

Recently, a slew of similar crimes have been reported in Mansfield, Andover, Billerica, and Medford. Neither suspect from the Weymouth case are charged in those incidents, but investigators say they believe this is part of a ring.
