Police report: Marine recruiter arrested for OUI after Boston crash

BOSTON – A local military recruiter with connection to a missing Massachusetts man is in custody in South Carolina on unrelated charges, but Boston 25 News uncovered he also charged with OUI after an alleged crash in January.

On Thursday, Boston 25 News reported that Frank Lipka was taken into military custody in South Carolina. We reached out to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Pentagon about the charges, but it’s unclear what he was arrested for and how he got to that state.

Following the announcement that Lipka was being held in the brig in Charleston, Boston 25 News uncovered a Massachusetts State Police report that shows Lipka allegedly crashed his Corvette on the Jamaica Way on Jan. 27, then tried to get into an Uber with his passenger and flee the scene.

Bail was set after the arrest, but it’s unclear if it was posted or if that arrest led to him being taken into custody by naval investigators.

According to family members of missing marine recruit Joeseph Brancato, Lipka had been allowing recruit Brancato to live with him, which is against military policy. In November, Brancato disappeared and has not been seen or heard from since.

Brancato's family members told Boston 25 News they’re still waiting for answers on what happened to him.

“[We’re] gravely concerned for his safety, gravely concerned about the whole situation. Something is just not right,” Brancato’s aunt Nicole DaSilva told Bob Ward Thursday.
