Military police leading new search connected to missing Marine recruit

Military police are leading a new search into the case of a missing Marine recruit.

Family members of Joey Brancato say they were contacted by Naval Criminal Investigative Services Friday morning to say they had identified an area as a new source of information in their case.

On Friday, investigators spent hours searching the area around Turtle Pond in West Roxbury. It is the same spot where investigators had previously canvassed in an unnamed missing persons investigation earlier.

Brancato, who was training to pass the test for the Marines, disappeared on Nov. 18. In the weeks since, Boston police and NCIS have searched for him.

Family members say Brancato was living in the basement of his recruiter's apartment in Roslindale when he disappeared.

Family members say they were still hopeful Brancato would be found, but they would not comment on Friday's search.
