Matt Light 'ashamed to be a Patriot' over anthem kneeling

BOSTON — Former New England Patriot Matt Light says he is "ashamed" to be one after several players knelt during the national anthem Sunday.

Light told the Boston Herald Sunday he thought the gesture was wrong.

“If you think that it’s OK to take a knee during our national anthem and disrespect openly the national anthem, you are wrong,” he said. “I don’t care if you have a ‘but what about’ or a ‘it’s because of,’ that doesn’t matter.”

Light went on to saw it would have never happened when he was playing.

The former lineman's comments seem at odds with the opinion of the team's owner who, in a statement Sunday, pledged support for his players.

"I am proud to be associated with so many players who make such tremendous contributions in positively impacting our communities," Kraft's statement read.

Tom Brady even told a Boston radio show Monday morning he disagrees with President Trump's comments last week, in which the president called and player who kneels during the national anthem a "son of a bitch."
