BOSTON — Patriots quarterback Tom Brady disagrees with President Trump’s recent comments on NFL players, he told a radio show Monday morning.

In an appearance on the Kirk and Callahan show, Brady called Trump's comments "divisive."

“Yeah, I certainly disagree with what he said. I thought it was just divisive," Brady told the hosts.

The controversy over players kneeling during the national anthem hit a fever pitch this weekend as players and owners across the united against the president's comments Sunday.

On Friday evening, Trump spoke at a campaign rally, calling any player who kneels during the national anthem a “son of a bitch.”

Dozens of patriots took a knee during the anthem at Gillette Stadium Sunday afternoon and Brady locked arms with other players in a show of support.

"Like I said, I just want to support my teammates," Brady said Monday morning. "I do believe in what I believe in. I believe in bringing people together and respect and love and trust," he said. "Those are the values that my parents instilled in me. That is how I try and live every day."

Trump called the move disrespectful to the country and everyone who represents and fights for its freedom.

Fans at the stadium appeared to have a split reaction as some booed the players during the anthem. But others argue their actions fall under their right to free speech.

Much of the controversy started last year, when 49’ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick knelt during the anthem to protest police violence.

"The one thing about football is it brings so many guys together — guys you would never have the opportunity to be around," Brady said. "Whether it was in college, and all the way into the pros. We’re all different, we’re all unique. That is what makes us all special.”
