Innocent victim of gun violence wants to help 9-year-old shot in Roxbury

BOSTON — One innocent victim of gun violence is reaching out and offering to help another innocent victim of gun violence.

Kai Leigh Harriott was paralyzed after a stray bullet shattered her spine more than a decade ago.

Now, she wants to share her story of recovery with a 9-year-old girl who was shot in Roxbury over the weekend.

"The happening again reopened it and brought it back to me," Kai said.

The girl who was shot this weekend was at a birthday party on Annunciation Road when two men gout out of a white car and opened fire into the crowd.

There are reports of possible paralysis, but it may only be partial or temporary.

Kai, who still needs a wheelchair to get around, wants to offer her support.

"I think the main thing the family should know is that things take time and recuperating takes time, and supporting one another during this rough time is what's going to get them through,” she said.

Kai is hoping the girl’s family will see news reports and that her offer to help stands, because she knows just how tough it can be.

"There weren't a lot of people who were disabled or handicapped who could relate to my situation," she said.
