9-year-old girl hospitalized after shooting in Roxbury

BOSTON — A 9-year-old girl was hospitalized in a late-night shooting in Roxbury.

Boston police say the shooting happened around 1 a.m. on Annunciation Street, near Northeastern University. Officers got to the scene and found a 9-year-old girl with a gunshot wound.

The girl was taken to the hospital, but is expected to survive, according to police.

Several sections of the road were blocked off as officers investigated Sunday morning.

One mother lives nearby and said her son, Deandre King-Settles was shot to death in the same area a year ago.

"It has to stop. This has to stop. Innocent people. They are kids. Why you shooting at kids for?" she said.

Police were moving in and out of one home on the street, but wouldn't say where exactly the shooting took place or how the home was involved.%

"It takes me back," King-Settles' mother said. "As soon as I lay down, I just heard gunshots, I didn't count how many, I just heard a lot."

Police say they are looking for a white car, which witnesses told them was driven by two African-American men who got out and started shooting. After that, they left.

People who live in the area tell FOX25 the level of violence has them frightened.

"I can't take it. I can't take it. And I'm not trying to lose another kid," King-Settles' mother said. "Because the pain is unreal."

She said she's trying to move.
