Belichick, Pouncey twins listed as potential witnesses in Hernandez trial

BOSTON — New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is listed as a potential defense witness in the upcoming trial against former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez.

The former New England Patriots tight end already is serving a life sentence with no possibility of parole for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. Lloyd was a semi-professional football player who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiance.

Hernandez is being tried in the slayings of two other men - both of them fatally shot in 2012 after they left a Boston nightclub.

The defenses' list of potential witnesses is several pages long and includes many Boston Police officers, State troopers, Bristol Police officers, deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's office, medical personnel, expert witnesses, and "keeper of the records" for several organizations, including the nightclub from the night of the shooting, Tootsie's Cabaret.

As for the Patriots organization, Belichick and Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels are the only two named on the list, along with the New England Patriots' Keeper of the Records, though it is unclear who that would be.

While in college, Hernandez played with Maurkice Pouncey and James "Mike" Pouncey on the University of Florida Gators team. Both of them are listed as potential witnesses and are known to be good friends with Hernandez. The now NFL stars were reportedly seen wearing "Free Hernandez" hats following the 2013 arrest.

New court documents reveal that prosecutors also want to play a call between Hernandez and his mother that took place just four days before Hernandez was found guilty for the murder of Odin Lloyd.

Opening statements are scheduled to start March 1.
