Jury selection underway in Aaron Hernandez's double murder trial

BOSTON — Jury selection is underway in ex-NFL star Aaron Hernandez's double murder trial.

The former New England Patriots tight end already is serving a life sentence with no possibility of parole for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. Lloyd was a semi-professional football player who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee.

Hernandez is being tried in the slayings of two other men - both of them fatally shot in 2012 after they left a Boston nightclub.

Prosecutors allege that Hernandez was the gunman and went after the pair after one of the men spilled a drink on him at the club.

For three days, groups of 200 potential jurors will fill out questionnaires and answer questions about the case.

This trial and the previous trial have been heavily covered by the media, but attorneys believe it will be possible to seat a jury

“The best we can possibly do is have people who maybe have heard about the case but also say I'm listening.  I'm listening to every bit of the facts here, I won't pre-judge this case,” defense attorney Peter Elikann, a FOX25 legal analyst, said.

Opening statements are scheduled to start March 1, and the prosecution has a direct eyewitness in Hernandez's former driver who is willing to testify.

The defense is expected to attack Bradley's credibility.

“They’re going to say that everything he said not only be looked at very carefully but should be discarded because it's purchased testimony,” FOX25 legal analyst and former prosecutor Bailey said.
