BOSTON — Drivers are being asked to plan for extra time and to take it slow as a flash freeze is expected to follow snow that fell early Friday morning.

Rain changed over to snow for most of the state, and Meteorologist Shiri Spear said temperatures are going to be crucial.

“It’s going to be a really juicy snow that has trouble sticking to the roads initially this morning because it’s a little too mild,” Spear said. “All this cold air then follows and the wet roads right now could very well turn icy during the morning commute.”

MassDOT said it had nearly 1,000 pieces of equipment working to clear snow and treat roads across the state.
A speed restriction on the Mass Pike was also put into place from the New York border to Springfield.
Several schools also announced they would open late because of the weather.
A coating to about two inches of snow seems likely across New England.
The precipitation is expected to be over and done by about 10 a.m.
