Tom Brady pleads the 5th on 'feeling appreciated'

BOSTON — New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has confirmed his plans to play this season and repeated his goal to play into his mid-40s during an appearance in California, but he was less committal when it came to his thoughts on the Patriots organization.

Brady sat down for an hour-long conversation Monday at the Milken Institute Global Conference.

He cracked a joke at one point, though, and some are getting all hyped up about it.

Moderator Jim Gray referenced and asked about a comment Brady’s wife, Gisele Bundchen, made during the Tom vs. Time Facebook series, implying Brady may not be having fun or feeling appreciated at work.

“I plead the fifth,” Brady said. “That’s a tough question. I think everyone, in general, wants to be appreciated more at work in their professional life. There’s a lot of people that appreciate me way more than I ever thought was possible as part of my life.”

Brady went on to speak more philosophically about learning as he’s gotten older that happiness and joy coming from within.

A Super Bowl controversy then came up – the benching of Malcolm Butler in the biggest game of the year after starting all season.

“I don’t make decisions,” Brady said. “I’m telling you the truth. I wish he would have played. But the coach decided not to play him, and we still had a chance to win. How do I look at that? No. I haven’t gone to discuss those things.”

As for not participating in the off-season workouts so far, Brady spoke about wanting to strike a balance and spend time with his young children when he can, but that he would be ready to play this coming season.
