BOSTON - Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright was arrested Friday night in Tennessee after a domestic dispute with his wife, Sharon.
He has been charged with domestic assault and prevention of a 911 call, according to ESPN.
The Red Sox released a statement Sunday night, saying, "This is certainly a matter that the Red Sox take very seriously. It is my understanding that both local police and MLB are looking into this and for that reason, the club won’t have any further comment at this time."
Wright was reportedly released Saturday morning on $5,000 bond.
Wright appeared in only five games in 2017 due to a knee injury. The knuckleballer earned All-Star honors in 2016.
Major League Baseball is investigating the incident and Wright could be subject to discipline under its domestic violence policy.
