Northeastern to name Jeff Konya Director of Athletics

BOSTON — Jeff Konya will be named director of athletics at Northeastern University Wednesday morning, sources have confirmed to Boston 25 News.

Konya comes to Northeastern after a 3 1/2-year stint at Oakland University in Michigan.

While at Oakland, Konya oversaw an incredibly successful run both athletically and on the marketing side of the University's sports business, Oakland was the winningest school in the Horizon League, across all sports, in each of the last three seasons.

Konya graduated from Princeton University in 1995 and completed his Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Iowa School of Law in 1998.  Prior to taking the job at Oakland University, Konya was the director of athletics at Cal State-Bakersfield from 2010-14.

Northeastern, who previously announced Peter Roby would be retiring from his role as director of athletics following the 2017-18 season, will introduce Konya Wednesday morning at a news conference scheduled for 10am.
