2018 NFL Draft: Patriots pick a pair from Georgia

Round One of the The 2018 NFL Draft is in the books. Five quarterbacks were selected in the first round, including four in the top ten. The Patriots stayed put at #23 and #31 and selected a pair of players from the University of Georgia - Isaiah Wynn and Sony Michel.

Tom Leyden was live blogging as the first round unfolded Thursday night:

11:34:

With the final pick in the first round, the Baltimore Ravens selected quarterback Lamar Jackson from Louisville. The Ravens acquired the pick in a trade from the Philadelphia Eagles with their eyes set on the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner, who finished with a 22-11 collegiate record.

11:28: 

The Patriots went back to the Georgia well in selecting running back Sony Michel with the 31st pick in the first round. Michel ran for 3,638 yards in his career at Georgia and also caught 64 passes for 621 yards.

11:23: 

The Patriots are on the clock once again at #31, with Harold Landry and Lamar Jackson both available.

11:22: 

The Minnesota Vikings wasted little time in making their selection at #30, picking cornerback Mike Hughes from the University of Central Florida. UCF finished the 2017 season undefeated and has claimed a self-proclaimed national championship for the effort.

11:18: 

With the 29th pick, the Jacksonville Jaguars stayed local and drafted defensive tackle Taven Bryan from the University of Florida.

11:13: 

The Pittsburgh Steelers, selecting 28th in the first round, selected safety Terrell Edmunds from Virginia Tech. Ryan Shazier, who suffered a spinal cord injury this season, walked on stage with his wife and made the announcement to the applause of the thousands in attendance at AT&T Stadium.  Edmunds brother, Tremaine was previously selected in the first round by the Buffalo Bills.

11:06: 

The Seattle Seahawks selected running back Rashaad Penny from San Diego State with the 27th pick in the first round. Penny also returns kicks.

10:56: 

The Atlanta Falcons added to their offensive firepower by selecting wide receiver Calvin Ridley from Alabama with the 26th overall selection. Ridley's 224 receptions are second-most in Crimson Tide history.

10:52: 

With the 25th selection in the first round, the Baltimore Ravens selected tight end Hayden Hurst from the University of South Carolina. Hurst was a 2017 First-Team All-SEC selection.

10:45:

The Carolina Panthers picked wide receiver DJ Moore from Maryland, the first receiver selected in the draft. Moore was the Big Ten receiver of the year in 2017.

10:35: 

The Patriots selected offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn from Georgia with the 23rd overall selection.

10:30: 

The Patriots are on the clock with the pick they acquired from the Los Angeles Rams for wide receiver Brandin Cooks.

10:27: 

The 22nd pick, which was previously traded from Buffalo to Kansas City to Baltimore, ends up with the Tennessee Titans. The Titans selected linebacker Rashaan Evans from Alabama.

10:25: 

The Cincinnati Bengals selected center Billy Price from Ohio State, winner of the 2017 Rimington Trophy, awarded to the nation's top center.

10:19: 

With the first selection of the Matt Patricia-era, the Detroit Lions selected center Frank Ragnow from Arkansas, who could be moved to guard since the Lions already have Graham Glasgow at center.

10:13: 

Making the selection in their home stadium, the Dallas Cowboys selected linebacker Leighton Vander Esch from Boise State, whose 141 tackles in 2017 led the team. Players from the Arlington Independent School District were on stage as Roger Goodell announced the pick.

10:11: 

The Pittsburgh Steelers announce they've traded wide receiver Martavis Bryant to Oakland.

10:03: 

The Green Bay Packers moved from #27 to #18 in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. The Packers selected CB Jaire Alexander from Louisville.  Alexander, who also returns punts, made 19 tackles and had one interception in 2017.

9:56: 

The Los Angeles Chargers, who selected Mike Williams from Clemson in the first round last year, picked safety Derwin James from Florida State with the 17th overall selection. James was a first-team All-ACC selection with two interceptions in 2017.  He's the first Florida State defensive back selected in the first round since Jalen Ramsey was picked by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016.

9:49:

The Buffalo Bills, who previously selected Josh Allen in the first round, have made a move up the board in the first round, acquiring the 16th overall selection from Baltimore in exchange for the 22nd overall selection in the first round and a fifth round pick (154). Baltimore also receives a third round pick (65).  With the pick, Buffalo selected linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, a 19-year-old from from Virginia Tech.

9:46: 

The Oakland Raiders, once again under the leadership of Jon Gruden, selected offensive tackle Kolton Miller from UCLA with the 15th overall selection. Miller is the second Bruins player picked in the first round. Miller started 13 games at left tackle for UCLA in 2017 after missing six games in 2016 with a leg injury.

9:33: 

The New Orleans Saints, originally slotted to pick 27th, completed a trade with the Green Bay Packers to acquire the 14th pick in the first round. In return, the Packers received the 27th pick, a fifth round pick (#147) and the Saints first round pick in 2019.  With the selection, the Saints picked defensive end Marcus Davenport from the University of Texas-San Antonio.

9:30: 

The Washington Redskins, who traded for Alex Smith to play quarterback and let Kirk Cousins go in free agency, selected defensive tackle Da'Ron Payne from Alabama with the 13th pick in the first round. Payne, who had 102 career tackles in college, is the second player from Alabama selected in this year's first round.

9:24: 

With the pick they acquired from the Bills in the Josh Allen trade, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected defensive lineman Vita Vea from the University of Washington. Vea's full name is Tevita "Vita" Tuliakiono Tuipuloto Mosese Va'hae Faletau Vea.

9:18: 

With the 11th overall selection, the Miami Dolphins selected safety Minkah Fitzpatrick from Alabama. He fittingly took the stage in a white suit over a black shirt with a black pocket square.

9:13: 

The Arizona Cardinals, with the 10th overall selection, picked quarterback Josh Rosen from UCLA. Rosen is the first UCLA quarterback selected in the first round since Cade McNown was taken by the Chicago Bears in 1999. Tommy Maddox in 1992 and Troy Aikman in 1989 were also first round picks.

9:05:

A second Notre Dame lineman has been selected. The San Francisco 49ers picked offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey, who started 39 games in his career in South Bend.

9:00: 

The Chicago Bears selected linebacker Roquan Smith from Georgia with the eighth overall pick. The 2017 Butkus Award winner helped lead the Bulldogs to the College Football Playoff Championship Game.

8:49:

The Buffalo Bills traded with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to acquire the seventh overall pick in the first round and selected Josh Allen, a quarterback from Wyoming. It's the first quarterback the Bills have selected in the first round since EJ Manuel in 2013.  The move cost Buffalo the 12th overall pick and two second round picks (53rd and 56th overall). The Bills also received a seventh round pick (255) from Tampa Bay.

The Indianapolis Colts selected offensive guard Quenton Nelson from Notre Dame.

8:42:

With the fifth overall selection, the Denver Broncos selected defensive end Bradley Chubb from North Carolina State. The pick was announced by Austin Denton, a St. Jude Children's Research Hospital patient

8:36: 

The Cleveland Browns selected Denzel Ward, a defensive back from Ohio State, with the fourth overall selection, a pick they acquired during the 2017 Draft from Houston in the trade including Brock Osweiler.

8:29:

The New York Jets, in desperate need of a quarterback to lead the team, select USC QB Sam Darnold with the third pick. 

8:20:

The New York Giants have taken Penn State running back Saquon Barkley with the second pick, opting not to pick a quarterback to succeed Eli Manning.

8:15:

With the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma.

The Browns took nearly all of the time allotted to them before making the pick.
