Mookie Betts leaves Red Sox game early after collision at home plate

BOSTON — Mookie Betts left the Red Sox game early Saturday with a knee injury after a collision at home plate.

During the first inning of Saturday's game against the Orioles, the Red Sox outfielder was heading home on a double off the Green Monster from Andrew Benintendi when he slid into home plate leg-first.

Betts collided with Orioles catcher Chance Cisco, and was visibly shaken up on the play after his left leg was tangled on the slide.

Betts was helped to the locker room in the first inning with assistance from trainers, before returning to the game for two more innings. Betts then left the game in the fourth inning and was replaced in right field.

The Red Sox provided an update after Betts left the game, and the right fielder was diagnosed with a left foot contusion. The team said X-rays were negative, and Betts will be listed as day-to-day.
