BOSTON - Five home runs in the past seven games has earned J.D. Martinez American League Player of the Week honors.

The Boston Red Sox right fielder went 9-for-26 (.346), drove in eight runs and crossed the plate seven times over the span of the last seven games.

This hot streak has tied Martinez with teammate Mookie Betts for most home runs in Major League Baseball with 15.

Martinez also now ranks second in the MLB in batting average (.343) and RBIs (41).

This is the first time the 30-year-old has earned Player of the Week as a member of the Red Sox, but the seventh time in his career. It’s the first time any Boston player received the award this season.

Martinez’s hot bat has helped the Red Sox win four of their last five games and become the first team in the MLB to win 32 games. The Sox remain tied for first place with the New York Yankees in the AL East standings.

Boston takes on the Tampa Bay Rays at 7:10 p.m. Monday night in the first game of a four-game series.
