Kyrie Irving undergoes successful knee surgery

BOSTON — After being shut down for the rest of the season with a knee injury Thursday, Celtics guard Kyrie Irving got a small bit of good news Saturday.

Irving's nagging injury, dating all the way back to 2015, required surgery that will keep him out of the rest of the regular season and any postseason action the Celtics see. On Saturday, Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge put out an update on Irving's surgery.

“The surgery went exactly as planned, and we expect Kyrie to be fully healthy for training camp in the fall,” Ainge said in a press release.

While the news doesn't provide any immediate positive impact for Celtics fans, it looks like the Celtics star will be ready to go when the 2018-2019 season starts next October.

Adding in the return of Gordon Hayward from his serious ankle injury, the Celtics should return to the top of the Eastern Conference quickly next season.
