Millis advances to D-8 Super Bowl with easy win

WOBURN — Millis scored early and often en route to an easy 40-22 win over Cathedral in the Division 8 state semifinal Friday night.

Bryce Latosek threw four touchdowns passes, the first two to Dom Zonfrelli, as the Mohawks jumped out to a 33-0 halftime lead.

Millis improved to 10-1 on the season, with a Thanksgiving matchup against Medway on deck and then a Super Bowl matchup at Gillette Stadium.

Last year, Millis-Hopedale won the D-8 championship but didn't get the chance to play at Gillette Stadium. Friday's win clinched that opportunity.

"Our kids were excited. They knew we had the opportunity if we won this football game, they couldn't keep us away from Gillette," said head coach Dana Olson. "Now we're going back. Hopefully Zo's doing the game. Believe it or not I had (Scott Zolak) come out and talk to these kids preseason.  We're excited. We're excited for our football program. We're excited for what we've built here. These kids have done a tremendous job."

Latosek was sharp from the outset in leading the Mohawks offensively.  He finished the night with 379 yards passing.

"The last two games I haven't been on my A-game," said Latosek. "Kurt (Hopkins), our running back, has had two really good games so they packed the box and they went four-for-four in the secondary and we ran past them."

"We need to finish early," said Zonfrelli, who didn't finish the game with a leg injury. "We wanted to get out big, make plays, come out hot. We haven't been passing the ball well the past two games so it felt like we needed to do that."

The Mohawks will face the winner of Saturday's matchup between Nashoba Tech and Hoosac Valley.
