WORCESTER, Mass. - Details on how much money the city of Worcester spent to try and get Amazon’s attention for its second headquarters has been released.
Amazon said it plans to bring 50,000 jobs wherever the company decides to bring the new campus, and Worcester wants to get in on the potential economic impact it could have on the city.
So, the city spent more than $10,000 to try and land the company.
The city of Worcester paid a production house with headquarters in Worcester and Providence more than $9,000 to produce a two-minute video.
In it, it shows a person looking through virtual reality glasses to travel through the city’s civic, cultural, educational and entertainment offerings, from Union Station to Worcester Polytechnic Institute to Wormtown Brewery.
The video was shot over four days in different locations in Worcester in October.
The city also spent $900 printing a glossy, 60-page booklet.
The total cost for Worcester’s Amazon pitch was $10,782.
That dollar amount was the most reported so far in any community in the state that submitted bids.
Virginia Beach, Virginia, spent $69,000 on its bid.
There’s no public record for how much money Boston spent.
Worcester city officials said the new good news about the video is that they can and will use it to market the city for various purposes.
