Woman accused of stabbing, killing boyfriend

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) -- A woman was in court Thursday after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death.

Stephanie Cruz, 28, is charged with murdering her 37-year-old boyfriend and father of her child inside their Leominster apartment. Since March, her  boyfriend Cedric Taylor was in a Worcester jail awaiting trial for charges of domestic assault, allegedly against Cruz. The case was supposed to go to trial Wednesday, but Cruz didn't show up so the charges were dropped.

The DA says the couple got into a massive fight at about 8 p.m. Wednesday night and that's when the stabbing occurred. Stephanie did not call police until 10 a.m. Thursday morning.

Taylor was charged with assaulting Cruz in March. Prosecutors twice tried to bring the case to trial, but Cruz failed to appear to testify both times.

Cruz was ordered held without bail and asked for a court-appointed lawyer Thursday in Leominster District Court.

State officials took custody of the couple's 2-year-old child.
