WAREHAM, Mass. - A Wareham man was arrested after taunting officers during a pursuit through the woods.
East Wareham resident Michael Carter was stopped by police on Mayflower Lane Saturday afternoon after an officer spotted him in a car that had been reported stolen earlier in the day.
As Wareham Officer Calib Larue was arresting the 24-year-old, Carter hit Larue's hand and fled from the scene on foot.
Larue chased Carter through woods and backyards, eventually leading to the White Island Pond beach.
Carter entered the water and started swimming away from Larue as two other officers arrived for backup. Carter then taunted the officers with profanities, saying "come get me."
The Department of Natural Resources used a boat to continue the pursuit, and Carter was eventually taken into custody and transported to Tobey Hospital for minor injuries.
Carter was charged with use of a motor vehicle without authority, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.
