Victim reports being dragged into woods, assaulted in Mashpee

MASHPEE, Mass. — Mashpee police are searching for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman Tuesday evening.

Police said a woman in her early 30s was waling near Commercial Street in the area of Community Health Center of Cape Cod around 5:30 p.m. A man approached her, grabbed her by the wrist and dragged her into the woods, said police. The victim was allegedly assaulted and managed to fight the suspect off. The man then fled into the woods.

Officers from the Mashpee Police Department searched the area with the help of Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit, but were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a tall black male in his 40s, wearing a dark coat, said police
