Unconscious man robbed by passersby after being assaulted and left on sidewalk

WORCESTER, Mass. — A man in Worcester was knocked unconscious after being beaten and, to make matters worse, a group of people walking by, robbed him again.

Police say the man was walking to his car on Mount Pleasant Street Monday night when another man attacked him from behind.

That attacker took something from the man's pocket before running away.

“The guy was hit by someone, then somebody else came,” a neighbor named Tito said. “Five more guys came and beat him up and took the keys from the car and took everything from his car.”

The 41-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with a head injury and remains in critical condition.

“It’s very troubling, we don't see this often, this one is disturbing, our detectives have been working around the clock,” Worcester Police Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst said.

The man was beaten so badly he still hasn't been able to speak with investigators.
