The Olympic athlete posted a photo on social media Wednesday announcing the news.

"My Christmas gift came early this year, can't wait for next year," Lochte wrote. "Best news I've ever received."

Lochte said that he is "excited" and on "Cloud 9."

Lochte's fiance, Kayla Rae Reid, shared a similar photo on Instagram.

"Just when you think you think you have it all figured out, life always surprises you with blessings when least expect it," she wrote.

The 32-year-old "Dancing with the Stars" contestant announced his engagement to Reid, a former Playboy model, on Oct. 9.

According to ABC News, Lochte and Reid have been dating since January. They met at Bootsy Bellows, a nightclub in Hollywood, California, where the two crossed paths in the VIP section, USA Today reported. Lochte said he messaged Reid on Instagram after the two briefly met at the club.

"My family says, 'Don't you think it's a little too soon?' I'm like, 'Can you put a time on love? Can you?'" Lochte told USA Today. "When I realized this was 'the one' was when she stuck behind me through (the Rio scandal).

"From the very first time I met her, everything has, like, clicked. That's why I know I can propose to her because everything that's happened and she's been keeping me so positive. She doesn't care about my fame. She doesn't care about anything. All she cares about is me being happy."
