Thieves targeting tires along South Shore

SOUTH SHORE, Mass. — Police are investigating a rash of tire thefts along the South Shore and Investigators said it appears the thieves are targeting newer model Hondas.

A Honda Accord was stripped of its tires and left on milk crates in the parking lot of Nisha Deepak's Washington Avenue apartment in Quincy.

"Why?  Why would you do that?  That's the question, why? Because we don't have expensive cars. It's not a Ferrari," said Deepak.

Deepak's husband discovered the car was stripped as he headed out to work around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

"The other side of the building has a camera, so I think they knew there's no camera on this side of the building and entrance on the other end, there is a camera inside the building.  So they knew what they were doing,” he said.

The Deepak's Honda one of three cars targeted late Monday night and early Tuesday morning in Quincy.
Cars were also stripped of their tires on Cove Way and Southern Artery.

That same night, thieves also struck in Braintree, with tires stolen from two cars in the parking lot of the Hyatt Place Hotel across from the South Shore Mall.

These same areas also targeted last summer when a wave of tire thefts hit these same communities.

"It's not like stealing someone's wallet, this is more expensive. And wallets you can just stop the credit cards and everything, but cars you're stranded,” said Deepak.

Investigators said it appears the thieves are targeting new model Hondas.

No arrests have been made.
