Students lead 'March For Our Lives' for stricter gun laws

BOSTON — Students all across the country will be participating in marches to call on lawmakers for stricter gun laws.

Here in Boston, one of the largest 'March For Our Lives' will take place. The march begins at Madison Park Technical Vocational High School at 11 a.m. and will end with a rally on Boston Common at 2 p.m.

Saturday, 4:15 p.m.: The March For Our Lives rally ends, crowds on Boston Common being to disperse.

Boston Police Commissioner Evans said the entire March For Our Lives event was entirely peaceful and no arrests were made.

Although no exact crowd size has been registered at this point, it is safe to say that tens of thousands of people joined today's event, either at the march, rally or both.

Earlier estimates were given to Boston 25 News by 617 Media Group, which was among the event organizers.

Saturday, 3:50 p.m: Spokesman and organizer for March For Our Lives tells Boston 25 News they estimate 65,000 people participated in the march; 100,000 participated in the march and rally.

Saturday, 2:00 p.m.: March For Our Lives rally has started on Boston Common.

Saturday, 1:50 p.m.: Rally on Boston Common is set to begin at 2:10 p.m.

Saturday, 1:30 p.m.: Demonstrators arrive at Boston Common for rally.

Saturday, 12:30 p.m.: MBTA Green Line Boylston Station closed due to crows.

Saturday, 12:15 p.m.: About 100 counter demonstrators have gathered on the Common.

Saturday, 11:45 a.m.: The SWAT team has arrived at Boston Common.

Saturday, 11:15 a.m.: Thousands of demonstrators are heading to Boston Common for the March For Our Lives rally. Many are carrying signs calling for change and safety.

Saturday, 10:45 a.m.: March underway in Boston.

Saturday, 10:30 a.m.: Boston Police have officer, large vehicles and equipment in place along the outside of the Common.

Saturday, 10 a.m.: Crowds are growing outside of the high school with just one hour left until the march is expected to begin.

StormTracker Meteorologist Jason Brewer says there is a sick for a chilly rain shower this afternoon.

Saturday, 9:10 a.m.: A voter registration booth is set up at the high school where marchers are set to step off from.

Students are making signs ahead of the march. Some of those signs read, 'Arms are for hugging' and 'Books not bullets.'

Saturday, 8:50 a.m.: Setup underway on the Boston Common for the rally this afternoon.

Saturday, 8:40 a.m.: Participants starting to gather outside of Madison Park High School.

Saturday, 7:30 a.m.: Students are pushing Bill H.3610, which would temporarily prevent firearm access for extremely dangerous or suicidal individuals.
