Stoughton Police warn of suspicious man approaching kids

STOUGHTON, Mass. - Stoughton Police are warning residents of a suspicious man who approached a high school student at a bus stop on Thursday.

According officials, around 6:50 a.m., the girl had just missed the school bus she always takes near the Green Brook Condos on Island Road.

The girl told police it was then that a man driving a White crossover with a rack on the front bumper offered her a ride to school. She told him no.

Police said that, after the girl refused the ride, the man took an aggressive tone with her, offering several times regardless of the student's refusal.

"It surprised me because nothing really happens here, I never really heard something like that so it was kinda concerning to me because I feel unsafe now going to the school bus stop," said high school sophomore Mattie Taylor.

The alleged vehicle was caught on a home surveillance tape.

Police say the girl did the right thing, not only by refusing a ride from a complete stranger, but also by immediately running home and notifying a parent.

The male driver said he was an Uber driver, and is described as a tan, Middle Eastern man with a heavy accent and a beard and mustache.

Police ask parents to remind kids to be aware of their surroundings and to report anything suspicious to an adult.

"I'm sad for the kids that they cant go out and be kids anymore, that they have to worry about every knucklehead that drives by them are they going to be prey or something," said Linda Scali, of Stoughton.

Anyone with information on this incident or regarding the car in the surveillance pictures is asked to contact Stoughton Police at 781-344-2424.
