State Police searching for driver in fatal hit-and-run in Mattapan

State Police are searching for a driver wanted for fatally striking a pedestrian and fleeing the scene in Mattapan early Saturday morning.

The crash happened at the intersection of Morton Street and Fulton Street shortly after midnight.

The victim has been identified as a 40-year-old man named Pierre "TJ" Desir. While Boston EMS tried to revive him, he was declared dead on scene.

Desir's mother, Adrienne Stephens-Liverpool, was desperate for answers.

“Whoever did this to my child, I just want them to find him/her," Stephens-Liverpool said. "That was my only son, my one and only, my love.”

The victim's sister, Victoria Nweke, was saddened by the loss.

“He was a hard-working family man," Nweke said. "He didn’t deserve this.”

Demetrius Willis, a nearby resident, said he knew there must have been a crash outside his home, but he didn't realize the man lying on the ground was someone he knew.

"I watched him grow up," Willis said. "I’ve been around here a long time. So I’ve watched him as a young man, you know."

There is still no information on the driver's vehicle.

Authorities are looking for a taxi driver who may have witnessed the collision, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

“The taxi driver is sought as a witness only, and is not accused of any wrongdoing,” Conley said.

Police are actively investigating this incident.
