Son claims mother stabbed him for smoking inside home, police say

BOXBOROUGH, Mass. — A 61-year-old woman has been charged with stabbing her adult son in Boxborough.

The Lowell Sun reports that the 22-year-old son reported the attack that allegedly happened inside the Boxborough home they share shortly after midnight on Nov. 8.

Boxborough police say 61-year-old Karin Evans told them she stabbed her son in self-defense because he attacked her with a pair of tin shears.

The son says she stabbed him in the shoulder with a knife because she was angry he smoked inside the home.

Police say the mother appeared to have been drinking.

Evans, facing charges including armed assault with intent to murder, was released on personal recognizance after a dangerousness hearing last week under the condition she not consume alcohol.

Evans is due back in court on Jan. 3.
