Red Line service resumes between N. Quincy, JFK/UMass

MBTA Red Line service has resumed Wednesday morning.

According to MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo, a track maintenance vehicle derailed on the southbound side early Wednesday morning. The equipment has since been removed and crews are working to repair the damaged rail.

Red Line service between North Quincy and JFK/UMass was replaced in both directions by shuttle buses.

At 6:30 a.m., the MBTA said service has resumed.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

MBTA customers expressed their frustration Wednesday morning when they said they did not receive email alerts they signed up for. The alerts are supposed to let commuters know if there are delays or changes.

Pesaturo told Boston 25 News that the MBTA contracts with a company to send the messages. This morning, the company said they were experiencing technical difficulties, resulting in messages going out late or not at all. MBTA asks customers to check MBTA.com or @MBTA on Twitter for updates.
