Shovels or lawnmowers? Seasonal businesses juggling wild weather

From shovels and salts, to lawnmowers and grills - local stores are struggling to prioritize when it comes to advertising this time of year.

Right now, there's a big sale at Curry Ace Hardware on lawn fertilizer, but nobody's exactly biting.

March's weekly installments of nor'easters has many seasonal businesses playing a guessing game.

"That's the whole challenge because we want to be in stock with the stuff people need right now," said Mark Guilinello, Curry Ace Hardware.

Usually by late March, it's wheelbarrows and lawnmowers that line the front of the stores, but that stuff is being kept in a back aisle and it's shovels still taking and center.

At Morrison's Power Equipment, it's a day-to-day decision for what goes up in storage and what stays on the sales floor.

"We put the snow throwers away and then we brought them back out. So, it has been hectic to keep the showroom in focus with what the weather is," said Scott Morrison.

With this nasty weather now creeping in on April, people are worried it's going to start causing problems in their yards.

"If we get into late April, it can be tricky to plant seed. You need at least a few weeks for it to germinate," said Gulinello.
