Police: Tow truck driver picked up, raped woman after crash on Christmas

METHUEN, Mass. — A woman was sexually assaulted by a tow truck driver who picked her up early Christmas day, according to Methuen police.

Christian Baez, 32, of Marlborough, was the driver who picked the woman up in the early morning hours of Dec. 25, Methuen Police Chief Joseph Solomon told Boston 25 News.

The woman crashed her car into a snowbank on Lawrence Street when Baez happened to come by, according to Chief Solomon.

Police say the woman was likely intoxicated and it’s unclear how she ended up in Baez’s car, but it appears she passed out before she was sexually assaulted. Police say she woke up during the assault and tried to get out of the vehicle, but Baez wouldn’t let her.

He drove her back to where she crashed her vehicle and police say an officer investigating the crash arrested Baez when the victim screamed for help.

The driver is charged with kidnapping, two counts of aggravated rape, one count of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 and one count of assault and battery.

He was arraigned Tuesday and held on $50,000 bail.
