Police: Teen asleep at wheel smashes through Abington dealership's cars

ABINGTON, Mass. — A teenager asleep at the wheel crashed through several cars in a dealership lot, the owner told Boston 25 News Friday.

Luckily, no one was hurt.

“I could hear a big bang, I was sitting at my desk in the showroom and then people came running out from the service department,” Mike Deveney explained. “Everybody thought a big truck must have come through and did this much damage.”

The owner of Midway Automotive Car Dealership in Abington ran outside to find six of his cars smashed.

But he says he was surprised to learn a teen in a Chrysler caused all the damage after he told police he fell asleep while driving.

Deveney’s cars are damaged beyond repair, he told Boston 25 News. The front ends left in pieces with glass and bumpers scattered across the lot.

“I’m going to say that these four in a row right here are totaled, but we can replace cars, nobody got hurt, so that’s the most important thing,” he said.

And Deveney says this isn’t the first time he’s seen an accident along the busy road. But it’s the worst he’s seen in the 20 years he’s had the business.

Deveney estimates the damage to cost about $100,000.
