Police searching for man who violently attacked teen at public park

HUDSON, N.H. – A favorite park and basketball court in Hudson, New Hampshire was the scene of a violent attack recently, police said.

On March 31, a 13-year-old boy was playing basketball at Greeley Park with other kids when a man approached him and tried to pick a fight.

“This unidentified male took a swing at one of the children and hit him in the head,” Police Detective Tom Scotti said.

The victim was knocked to the ground, and then the man picked up the teen’s lacrosse stick and broke it before taking off.

Witnesses described the attacker as a man in his early 20s with dirty blond hair and a tattoo on his right forearm.

“It’s disheartening because my son does play basketball down here on occasion and I feel like it’s a very safe environment,” Caleb Harmen, a parent whose son is friends with the victim, said.

Police are making an appeal to the public hoping someone else saw something.

In the meantime, Harmen is having second thoughts about letting his son go to Greeley Park until the suspect is caught.

“They play so many video games inside all day when they get the chance to go out to play some hoops or baseball you want to allow them to do that. If they can’t it’s just unfortunate,” he said.

Police said they believe the attacker was driving an older model gray or green Ford Explorer or Escape.
