Police respond to two fox attacks in Chelmsford

CHELMSFORD, Mass. — Two separate fox attacks were reported in Chelmsford on Monday.

Police and fire officials responded to a late afternoon report about a fox that attacked a Zesty's Pizza delivery person at 14 Crosby Ln.

Deputy Police Chief Dan Ahern said they caught, shot and killed the fox. The fox will be tested for rabies, according to police.

Earlier that same day, Ahern and Fire Chief Gary Ryan responded to another attack on 4 Meeting House Rd, which is the address for the Women's Imaging Center of Lowell General Hospital. The fox bit a nurse on the right ankle and then ran away.

Police confirm that both of the people bitten went to the hospital for evaluation.

According to Mass Wildlife, red and gray foxes are common throughout Massachusetts and usually breed during March and April.
