Police: Woman killed by close relative in Worcester

WORCESTER, Mass. — A woman was found dead in her home in Worcester Saturday night.

Worcester Police say they received a call around 11:30 from someone saying a woman may have been harmed by a family member, and then that family member went to a local Dunkin Donuts.

Police found the body of a 56-year-old woman at the home on Bailey Street. They said it appears the death was caused by direct trauma.

In the meantime, other officers went to Dunkin Donuts and found a 26-year-old man outside. He was brought to the station for questioning.

Following an interview, the 26-year-old man - who is a relative of the victim - was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, and Domestic Assault and Battery.

He will be arraigned on Jan. 2. He could face more charges as the investigation continues.

Police said the woman's cause of death is pending an examination.

Neither the woman nor the suspect have been identified at this time.
