Police: 2 in custody after shooting at officers, speeding up I-93 into NH

WINDHAM, N.H. — Two people who allegedly shot at police officers were arrested late Tuesday night after a 13-mile pursuit from Haverhill into southern New Hampshire.

According to police, a driver, later identified as 20-year-old Manuel Antonio Soto, shot at officers on I-495 around 10 p.m. in Haverhill before driving up I-93 at over 100 miles per hour with Haverhill Police and Mass. State Police in pursuit.

The driver crashed on Route 111 in Windham before being arrested by Haverhill and Mass. State Police.

One person was taken into custody after the crash, but a second person took off foot from the scene.

A gun and two magazines were located in the passenger compartment of the vehicle, police said.

Sometime later, police say the second person, identified as Javonnie Chambers, 21, was arrested walking along I-93 in Londonderry, New Hampshire.

Several departments were involved in the search for Chambers and the vehicle, a 2002 Mazda registered to Soto, was later towed back to Haverhill.

Police have not yet identified the people who were arrested. However, both are expected to be arraigned in Derry District Court and Rockingham County Court Wednesday.
