Police: 12-year-old injured after woman stabs self, son

PLYMOUTH, Mass. - A 12-year-old was taken to Boston Children's Hospital after Plymouth police say his mother stabbed him in the throat Wednesday morning.

Police say they got a call at 7 a.m. reporting a disturbance at 420 Little Sandy Pond Rd. Soon after, police received a second call from a young boy saying he had been stabbed.

When police got to the house, they found two children - a 12-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl - in a bedroom. Police say the boy had wounds to his neck and was taken to Boston Children's Hospital. He is expected to be OK.

His sister was not injured.

The mother, identified by police as Jean Rezac, 43,  was found locked in a bathroom.

"The officers had to force entry into the bathroom where they found the mother submersed in a tub of water with what appeared to be self-inflicted stab wounds to her neck and chest area,” Plymouth Police Chief Mike Botieri said.

They disarmed her and the 43-year-old was taken to the hospital where she was charged with armed assault with intent to murder, aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and reckless endangerment of a child.

Police said they had no information on a motive.

Police say the family had just moved to town. The father is now taking care of the children.
