Plymouth mother: 7-year-old let off at wrong bus stop without permission

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — A Plymouth mother says a bus driver let her son off at the wrong stop, then drove off.

Loni Keaton claims a substitute bus driver dropped off her 7-year-old son, Jacob, at the wrong stop even though a parent at that stop told the driver he wasn't supposed to get off.

"The bus driver was like, 'Is this right?' and she said, 'No, this child doesn't belong here.' She specifically said this is not his stop and the bus driver continued to drive off and leave my child there," said Keaton.

Keaton says she loves Jacob's regular bus driver and had never seen the fill-in driver before and was shocked to learn Jacob had already gotten off, even though she hadn't given permission.

"The bus driver leaned her head out the window and said, 'Do you have a little boy?' and I said yes and she said, 'I left him at his friend's house,'" said Keaton.

When Boston 25 News reporter Chris Flanagan contacted the bus company, First Student, all they would say was, 'No comment. We are investigating.'

The bus did have a camera on it and the superintendent says they are reviewing it and not releasing the video because it involves a minor. He does claim the video shows Jacob "imploring" the driver to let him off the bus at his friend's stop and that they little boy was never left unattended.

"It should not have happened. It was an error and against our policy," said Dr. Gary Maestas.

He says the district is working to make sure all drivers are aware of policies and procedures.

Keaton admits her son does take some responsibility because he got off at another bus stop on his own, but he doesn't want the driver to lost her job.

"I don't want her fired. I want something to be done about this so this could never happen again," said Keaton.

The school district did not say if that driver will face any sort of disciplinary action.
