PetSmart worker hurt after being bitten by dog

HYANNIS, Mass. -- A PetSmart worker in Hyannis was seriously injured after she was bitten by a dog, a Hyannis Fire Department lieutenant told Boston 25 News.

Rescuers were called to the pet store on Iyannough Road around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with an injury to an upper extremity. She was later flown to a Boston hospital. Her condition is unknown.

"This is an upsetting, unfortunate occurrence, and our thoughts are first and foremost with our associate who was injured," a PetSmart spokesperson told Boston 25 News. "We will continue to support her and wish her a full and speedy recovery."

Barnstable Police are investigating. PetSmart is also looking into what happened.

"We are actively investigating the incident to determine how it occurred, and if there is anything we can do to help prevent this from happening again in the future," the PetSmart spokesperson added.
