Two men shot in South Boston

BOSTON — Two men were shot in South Boston Monday afternoon inside a public housing complex.

The incident happened on B Street, according to police, which is near Dorchester Avenue. Officers arrived to find two men shot in the first floor of the housing complex.

"There was some type of type of either transaction gone bad or some type of confrontation here," said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans.

Police said one victim was critically injured, having been shot numerous times, and the other suffered a gun shot wound to the hip.

This is the first shooting in Boston of the new year.

Police said there isn't a suspect at large, but wouldn't confirm if the suspect was in custody. The two men shot do know each other. Sources told Boston 25 News that the man shot in the hip may have accidentally shot himself while trying to put the gun away.

Police said there has been an uptick in crime at the public housing complex. This shooting is not believed to be gang related, but police said much of the violence in the area is.
