Cab driver injured after accident at Hyde Park auto body shop

BOSTON — Police are investigating an accident at an auto shop in Hyde Park that ended with one man being taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to the Boston Police Department an employee was backing up a car and may have hit a man. Surveillance video from across the street shows the mechanic driving the SUV into the garage about 30 minutes before the accident.

The victim, identified by family members as 55-year-old Jean Thermora from Waltham, was at the garage as a customer having work done on his cab. He was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital and is expected to survive.

“I heard that the car mash him up on the table,” Frantz Theveni from Hyde Park, said.

A black Jeep Liberty, believed to be the vehicle involved, was removed and towed from the scene with visible rear end damage.

Boston Inspectional Services and OSHA are investigating the incident.

“I think that's it's tough for anyone who sees it but at the same time it is what it is it was an accident and we cannot tell who's at fault,” Pierre Augusatev, a friend of the garage owner, said.
