DA: Teen driver fatally hit one pedestrian, injured two others

MEDFORD, Mass. - Police reported three people were hit by a teenage driver in Medford on Sunday afternoon, where one pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials confirmed the teenage driver struck and killed a woman at the intersection of Emerald and Spring streets just before 5 p.m.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Medford Police Chief Leo Sacco said preliminary investigation showed the driver continued to travel on Spring Street, where he hit a man and a woman who were walking their dog. The dog did not survive the crash.

“I heard the engine rev as it got closer to the corner and that’s when I heard the impact,” said Mike Corrado, an employee at Ronny's Place on Spring Street. "First thing I saw was a man on the ground asking to call 911 as soon as we could and I saw what looked like a dog on its side, it didn’t seem to be moving. I saw a woman on the ground rolling around on the ground looking like she was in terrible pain.”

The driver then hit a Citizen's Bank near Yeoman's Avenue.

Two of the victims were transported to the Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries.

According to police, the driver was taken into custody at the scene.

“I’m shaken more than anything because it could have been me going out there to do a delivery or grab something, it could have been anyone," said Corrado.

The identities of the victims and the charges against the driver have not yet been released.
