NYPD officers help restart Andover man's heart

NEW YORK — New York City police officers are being lauded for saving the life of an Andover man after he suffered a heart attack in the street.

According to officials, 83-year-old Ron Gargalowitz was celebrating his 60th wedding anniversary in New York City when he suffered a heart attack.

Gargalowitz's wife and their entire family were with him on West 45th Street on Friday night when he collapsed.

Good Samaritans nearby flagged down a passing patrol car and the officers immediately raced into action.

By the time the ambulance arrived, NYPD officers had already gotten Gargalowitz's heart to start beating again and he was breathing on his own.

"[It] took a little from every person to put whole thing together," said NYPD Officer Michael Gallagher. "Without everyone standing here, [it] wouldn't have happened."

On Sunday, officers paid Gargalowitz a visit at the hospital and gave him a "Midtown North" T-shirt to remind him he has guardian angels in Midtown North.

"They not only saved my father, they saved our whole family - I can't thank them enough," said Christine Yoken, Gargalowitz's daughter.
