NH court unseals documents in Carman case

BOSTON — Documents unsealed by a New Hampshire court Wednesday reveal what Connecticut police said about Nathan Carman when he was first suspected of killing his grandfather.

The Connecticut businessman John Chakalos was found shot to death in his bed in 2013 and his grandson, Carman, was considered the prime suspect.

He was never charged, but his aunts are claiming in court that Carman should be cut from his grandfather's will on the grounds they believe he killed his grandfather and his mother. Linda Carman was presumed lost at sea after a fishing trip with Nathan in 2016 went awry and he was found nearly a week after they left floating in a life raft.

The documents made public in the court Wednesday include the police affidavits stating that Carman was believed to be dangerous. The document, which included only circumstantial evidence and damning opinions of Nathan's passing acquaintances, was obtained by Boston 25 News in 2016.
