New Hampshire WWII veterans honored at monument ceremony

BOSCAWEN, N.H. — A special ceremony this weekend honored New Hampshire veterans of World War II.

Dozens gathered at the state veterans ceremony in Boscawen to honor some of the last surviving members of an elite group of Marines.

Fundraising on his own, along with donations from family and the U.S. Marine Raider Association, 95-year-old WWII veteran Harry Sheffield decided to create a new monument.

"There's a nice Marine monument but not for the Raiders. So it's quite an honor and I'm so pleased that it went well," Sheffield said.

Governor Maggie Hassan and Senator Kelly Ayotte met with the veterans at the ceremony.
